Vaison-la-Romaine is one of the most attractive small towns in Provence for an extended stay, with activities taking place all year-round town. The town is famous for its Roman remains, medieval centre and colourful Provençal market. The town is close to both Avignon and Orange, in north-western Provence.

The property is located on the first floor above a small café and wine cellar. The apartment overlooks the central Place du 11 Novembre, where the weekly Provençal market is held. The apartment is laid out on one floor and comprises 70m2 of living space.
The property comes with:
- A well-equipped kitchen with a large fridge-freezer, combi-microwave oven, hotplates, coffee percolator and toaster.
- The lounge is a lovely light and spacious room, with a high ceiling and large Velux windows. It features a sofa, armchair and coffee table, separate seating area and a desk.
- Bedroom 1 comes with a double bed and dressing table.
- Bedroom 2 also has a double bed.
- The bathroom contains a walk-in shower, wash basin and WC.
Outside
- There is a small balcony with a table and chairs, which overlooks the central market square, with pacement cafés and restaurants.

The property is available for rentals from 3-12 months (although longer rental periods are preferred). The prices quoted are based on a 12 month lease. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €175 towards the utility bills (electricity, water, Wi-Fi and local taxes). At the end of the lease period, there will be a reconciliation of the utilities consumed against the provision paid.

Vaison-la-Romaine is an excellent base for a long term rental in Provence. This historic town dates back to before the Romans and has an excellent selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, while the vineyards of the Rhône Valley and the landscapes of Mont Ventoux are close at hand. Its location in northern Provence also provides good access to the larger towns of Orange and Avignon.

Area activities
Vaison-la-Romaine is an excellent location for a long term rental in Provence. It has all the historical beauty and charm of a Provençal village, combined with the facilities of a small town. It also provides a range of activities throughout the year. The town has around 6,400 inhabitants. The lower part of the town contains extensive Roman remains at Puymin and La Villasse, an ancient theatre and the Roman bridge over the Ouvèze. Across the river, the Haute Ville climbs through narrow cobbled streets and stone houses towards the medieval château, with views towards Mont Ventoux.
Vaison also has a very good Provençal market, held every Tuesday with around 350 stalls. There are restaurants, cafés, shops, galleries and a good cultural programme throughout the year.
The surrounding area is excellent. You have Mont Ventoux, vineyards, olive groves and numerous wine villages nearby. The wider area is particularly associated with Côtes du Rhône wines. Pretty places such as Crestet, Séguret, Gigondas, Beaumes-de-Venise and Nyons are all worth searching out, while Orange and Avignon provide the larger historic towns, larger shops and services and better transport connections.
Other transport
Orange railway station is approximately 30 km away, while Avignon is around 50 km from Vaison-la-Romaine. Avignon TGV provides high-speed rail connections to Paris, Lyon, Marseille and other major French cities.
There is a local bus service which connects Vaison-la-Romaine with surrounding towns, including Orange.
For everyday life and exploring the villages, vineyards and countryside around Mont Ventoux, however, a car is recommended.
Airports
Marseille Provence Airport is the principal international airport for the area, approximately 1½ hours by car depending on traffic. It offers a wide range of domestic and international flights and is likely to be the most useful airport for most international travellers.
Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport is approximately 2 hrs 35 mins and it has its own TGV station, with rail connections towards Orange and Avignon. The airport has a wide choice of European and international flights.
Driving directions
Vaison-la-Romaine is located in north-west corner of the Vaucluse department, in Provence, between the Rhône Valley and Mont Ventoux, with Orange (30km) and Avignon (50km) accessible to the southwest. Vaison is 30 mins from the A7 motorway, which connects Lyon and Paris to the north and Montpellier and Marseille to the south.
One month deposit to be paid at the time of reservation (this will become your security deposit for your stay). For stays of 3 months or less, the rent is to be paid in advance. For rentals in excess of 3 months, the rent can be paid monthly on the 1st day of the month. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €175 towards the electricity bills (electricity, water and local taxes). At the end of the lease the actual utility consumption will be reconciled against the provision paid.
